Grace Baptist Church held a sign dedication ceremony for a new church sign that was completed as an Eagle Scout Service Project by Grayson Howell, Boy Scout Troop 69.
The church planned to get a permanent sign, but Howell approached Pastor Mark Elkins, the church deacons, and the members asking for permission to complete the sign as his project for his next advancement.
The sign was constructed of architectural block, metal and a concrete footing. More than 300 man-hours were invested in the project. Howell led his peers while utilizing expertise from numerous adults during the process.
Howell thanked members of Troop 69, Pastor Mark Elkins, Deacons, and members of Grace Baptist Church, Dick East and Tracy Collins of Mechanical Designs, Eddie Spence of David S. Elliott Company, John Hooker of Gordon Hooker Masonry, Ricky Murphy of Murphy Brothers Construction, James Bryant of Stuart Concrete, Martinsville Concrete Products, and Patrick Building Supply for all of the donations and efforts that helped contribute to the success of the project.
