Residential and business water and sewer customers with overdue balances on their bills have until 5 p.m. on Oct. 9 to settle their bills, Stuart Town Council members noted Wednesday.
Failure to do so will result in suspension of services.
The council approved sending notices to alert residential and business customers of the change in May.
Notices mailed in June stated that services would be suspended if outstanding balances were not paid by the Oct. 9 deadline.
Also in May, council members agreed if services are suspended, past due balances and reconnection fees must be paid before water and sewer services are restored.
Once accounts are current, customers who fall behind in their bills will have 75 days to pay any past due balances, or services will be suspended on the 76th day.
Officials also noted that charges listed on the October 9 bill must be paid by the November due date.
Also on Wednesday, the council agreed, but took no formal vote, to allow town officials to replace an existing 2-inch line to serve customers on Dallas Line Lane.
Currently, services are provided to some customers on the road, according to Town Manager Terry Tilley. However, a resident near the end of the road has asked to hook up to the service, he said.
A 4-inch line would handle the flow, but would not allow for hydrants to be installed, on Dallas Line Lane of Ashby Drive, officials said. They agreed a 6-inch line would accommodate both customers and fire hydrants.
The estimated cost to replace 1,500-feet of line is $30,000, Tilley said. There is no time table for work to start, he said, and added it may be the spring of 2018.
