Simmons was elected to serve as the chairman of the Patrick County School Board during the board’s first meeting of the year on Thursday.

Terry, past chairman, was elected to serve as vice chairman at the meeting held in the Meadows of Dan Elementary School.

Both votes were unanimous.

The board also appointed members to certain committees, and heard a presentation from Shannon Royall Harrell regarding outsourcing transportation.

Harrell said she had researched school divisions the opted to outsource their transportation program, and she encouraged the board to not do the same in Patrick County.

The board directed Sroufe to issue a Request for Proposals (RFP) to determine the feasibility of outsourcing bus transportation. (By Amanda Collins)
