JV Baseball Slaughters Martinsville
The Cougars scored 8 runs in the 1st and 5 runs in the 2nd to cruise to a 15 -0 win over Martinsville, May 5 at Cougar Field. Three Cougar hurlers combined for a one hitter and allowed no runs for the contest. Starter Easton Harris struck out the side in the 1st, followed by Greely Terry with a strikeout in the second. Lucas Taylor finished the game by striking out 3 Bulldogs in the last frame. The Cougar’s had 9 hits on the game with 13 RBIs. Leading the way were Carter Gregory, going 2 for 2 with 3 RBIs. Caleb Geiger went 2 for 3 and added 3 RBIs. With the win the Cougars improved to 14-1 on the season. They will finish the season next week with 3 games. They will play Gretna on Monday at home, followed by an away game on Tuesday at Magna Vista. They finish the regular season at Halifax County on Thursday.
Lady Cougar Softball Splits the Day
The Lady Cougars played 2 games at Magna Vista on Saturday, May 6. Journey Moore pitched the first game, striking out 13 in the 8-2 win. Moore went 2 for 4 in the box. Bryley Pike and Kursten Hylton had 2 hits each. Samantha Harris and Madison Greer had 2 RBIs each. In Game 2, the Lady Cougars lost 11-4 to Mecklenburg. McKenzie Holt struck out 10 and Hayden Lawless pitched the last 3 innings. Kyleigh Gusler led the way with 2 hits for the Cougars.
Girls Tennis Gets Win at Danville
The Lady Cougar Tennis Team got a 6-3 win over GW Danville, on May 1. In singles,
Marissa Bentley (PC) defeated Sadie Gun 8-5, Mia Stowe (PC) defeated Natalie Harris 8-3, Madison Mullis (PC) fell to Kyra Alexander 6-8, Cecilia Leon-Cisneros (PC) defeated Braelynn Adams 8-2, Shyanne Holt (PC) defeated Morgan Parsons 8-4, and Aaliyah Reynolds (PC) fell to Nylan Yancey 7-9. In doubles, Marissa Bentley/Mia Stowe defeated Sadie Gunn/Natalie Harris 8-5, Madison Mullis/Cecilia Leon-Cisneros defeated Kyra Alexander/Braelynn Adams 8-4, and Shyann Holt/Aaliyah Reynolds fell to Morgan Parsons/Nylan Yancey 6-8.

In Singles, Marissa Bentley (PC) defeated Sadie Gunn 8-6, Mia Stowe (PC) defeated Natalie Harris 8-2, Madison Mullis (PC) fell to Kyra Alexander 7-9, Cecilia Leon-Cisneros (PC) defeated Braelynn Adams 8-6, Katie Vernon (PC) defeated Morgan Parsons 8-0, and Shyanne Holt (PC) defeated Nylah Yancey 8-3. In Doubles, Marissa Bentley/Mia Stowe fell to Sadie Gunn/Natalie Harris 6-8, Madison Mullis/Cecilia Leon-Cisneros defeated Kyra Alexander/Braelynn Adams 8-3, and Katie Vernon/Shyanne Holt defeated Morgan Parsons/Nylah Yancey 8-5. The Lady Cougars finished the regular season 6-6.
Varsity Baseball Gets Three Wins
The Cougars defeated the Eagles, Tuesday, May 2, 14-0. Gavin Fain and Toby Perkins combined for a no-hitter in the win. Noah Jessup led Patrick County at the plate, going 4-4. On Thursday, May 4, the Cougars defeated Radford, 15-1. Tucker Swails got the start and the win on the mound, going 3 innings, allowing 0 runs, striking out 6, and walking 1. Jai Penn threw for 2 innings allowing 1 run, striking out 4, and walking 3. Swails led the Cougars at the plate going 2-4 with a grand slam and 7 RBIs. Penn and Jackson Horton had 2 hits each. Broc Taylor and Fain had 1 hit each with 2 RBIs. Jessup added 1 hit and 1 RBI. PC defeated Martinsville Friday, 23-2. Stuart Callahan got the win on the mound. Taylor had 4 hits and 7 RBIs, with 2 of those hits being home runs. Callahan and Hunter Pendleton had 3 hits each. Jessup added 2 while Horton hit the third home run for the Cougars.
