The remnants of Hurricane Michael as the storm system tracked northeastward through the area, are responsible for six deaths in various parts of Virginia, according to the Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM).
Locally, many residents were without electricity and cautioned to stay off the roadways as the National Weather Service in Blacksburg forecast heavy rainfall and windy conditions.
Local schools and those in some adjacent areas were closed Friday due to storm damage.
Schools in several localities remained closed on Monday, including Pittsylvania and Halifax counties, Danville and Carlisle School in Martinsville.
