The Patrick County Agricultural Fair Committee of Stuart Rotary Club attended the Virginia Association of Fairs 99th Annual Conference Awards and Banquet January 7-10 at the Homestead in Hot Springs and received several awards for the local fair.
This is the first time since the inception of the fair 63 years ago that the fair committee has competed in the association’s Communication Awards. Entered into 19 categories, the Patrick County Fair received 18 awards in addition to an Overall Winner Plaque which was based on total number of points.
The club was especially proud of its first place award for the fair booklet produced by Angels Above Design. Other awards in the 7,000 and under attendance division are as follows: nine first place awards for web advertisement, best in show, photo essay Board, pageant booklet, fair booklet, television advertisement, black and white newspaper ad, media scrapbook, fair scrapbook, and first place flyer; four second place awards for the t-shirt, radio advertisement, billboard, and newspaper article; and four third place awards for postcard/poster, brochure, color newspaper ad, and fair map.
Fair committee members shared their knowledge as well as developed ideas on how to make their fair more entertaining. The Patrick County Fair is planned every year for local and surrounding area citizens with an emphasis on a family environment, while showcasing businesses and local musical talent. In addition to providing wholesome activities, the fair earns money for the upkeep and improvements to Stuart Rotary’s widely used buildings and athletic fields.
The support of business sponsors, advertisers, 4-H program, volunteers, family members, and the talents of the musicians are all intertwined to make fair week a memorable and exciting time.
Most importantly, Rotarians would like to thank Patrick County and the surrounding communities for their ongoing support. Stuart Rotarians are already working hard to produce a fair that all of its members can be proud of—see you at the fair in September.
