A Virginia Department of Fire Programs Firefighter 1 course with 11 students was completed Sunday, July 24 in Patrick County. The course meets all of the National Fire Protection Association Standard 1001 requirements and takes about 160 hours of classroom and hands-on skills. Also students are required to have CPR training, obtain FEMA certificates in Incident Command 100, 200 and 700. They must also obtain certification in Hazardous Materials Operations, all in addition to the basic 160 hour Firefighter 1 Course.
