Summer vacation has been going on for just over a week for many Patrick County High School students, but summer strength and conditioning for Cougar athletes is in full swing.
According to assistant coach David Morrison, over 30 athletes have been taking advantage of the summer offerings to every athlete at the high school. “We are open to any athlete in grades 7-12 who have a completed VHSL physical form,” Morrison said. Monday morning, over 35 athletes were taking advantage of the activity.
The conditioning sessions are Monday and Wednesday from 8:30 to 11 a.m. in the high school weight room. Midway through the session, athletes break for drills on the practice field behind the school.
Tuesday nights the athletes are invited to participate in 7-on-7 football competitions at the Smith River Sports Complex south of Martinsville. The competition starts at 6 p.m.
“We invite all Cougar athletes to attend our strength and conditioning sessions,” Morrison said. The program will all summer except for July 4th week.
