I want to express my deep gratitude to all who helped in the recovery from tornado damage in Ararat.
First of all, thanks to the Virginia Department of Transportation for clearing the highways super fast. Only when you’ve been completely blocked in on all sides can you fully appreciate being able to come and go freely.
Thanks to the Patrick County Sheriff’s Office, Patrick County Emergency Management, the Red Cross and the Ararat Volunteer Fire Department for their rapid response to this disaster.
To the churches and businesses who worked together to help with debris removal and feeding volunteers and work crews, thanks—that was a wonderful kindness. To my family, friends and neighbors who helped clear my driveway, offered prayers and encouragement, my heartfelt thanks.
Most of all, thanks to God who saw that no one was harmed and our local elementary school was spared. I feel so blessed to live right here, where everyone is willing to help in times of crisis. In today’s world that is no small thing.
