The tickets were obtained by the TAC through an advertising agreement.
Blue Ridge Heritage (BRH), was a recipient of two tickets to a Virginia Tech football game between the VT Hokies and the Delaware Hens, scheduled for September 9 at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg.
Another partner to BRH, the Patrick County Chamber of Commerce, offered BRH the opportunity to raffle the VT tickets during the 2017 Peach Festival at Wayside Park. It proved to be a successful effort.
BRH plans to use the funds raised with the raffle to purchase signage that highlights the partnership BRH has with the American Chestnut Foundation which provided Hybrid American Chestnut Trees in an effort to restore that magnificent tree to the Blue Ridge mountains in Patrick and Floyd counties.
Several of the fungus resistant trees are established on the BRH property near Meadows of Dan. The signage, to be placed near the Hybrid American Chestnut Trees, will help explain the project to the public visiting the BRH Education and Cultural Center, a future asset to Patrick and Floyd counties.
BRH promotes education and economic development through place-based programs related to the natural and cultural heritage of the Blue Ridge in Floyd and Patrick counties.
Visit the website at brheritage.org to learn more about BRH and the many free programs offered by Blue Ridge Heritage as they continually serve Patrick and Floyd counties.
The local tourism department looks forward to learning how the tickets were used by other agencies in their fundraising efforts.
