Hannah Tompkins, a senior guard on the Bob Jones University Bruins women’s basketball team, became the second member of the women’s basketball team to score 1,000 career points in school history.
Tompkins’ milestone came during the Bruins’ 88-29 victory in the National Christian College Athletic Association’s (NCCAA) South Region Tournament opening round game against Piedmont International University on Thursday, February 23. She scored 21 points in the game.
The Bruins played in three games in Tocca Falls, Ga., in the tournament. In the second game she scored 18 points when the Bruins beat #2 seeded Trinity College 78-64.
During the final game against Pensacola Christian College, Hannah scored 22 points, with five assists and several rebounds in the 79-69 win. The Lady Bruins won their first NCCAA Division II South Region Championship
Following the tournament, the NCCAA named Tompkins 1st Team All-Region. Tompkins was selected based on her performance throughout the season, with the final first team selections being voted on by head coaches in the South Region.
“These All-Region awards are a great reflection on the growth of these players on the court and as individuals,” Bruins Head Coach Mike LeViere said. “For Hannah, being voted on by the coaches and being named to the all-region team is a great honor and tribute to the hard work and sacrifices she has put in.”
Tompkins led the team in scoring as she averaged 12.5 points per game this season to go along with 5.3 rebounds per game. She was instrumental in the team’s success all season long.
“Hannah is just the epitome of what a coach is looking for in players,” Coach LeViere said. “She sets the standard for work in our program.”
The Lady Bruins earned the #4 seed for their first-ever appearance in the NCCAA DII National Tournament in Ankeny, Iowa.
Tompkins is a special education major from Ararat.
