Greetings Patrick,
I hope you are doing well and have had the chance to enjoy the beautiful colors on the hills over the past few weeks. The vibrant hues marked the change of seasons. As the leaves have faded and fall is coming to an end, our tourist season will slow down as we move into winter. Unfortunately, we experienced a significant interruption during the peak leaf-peeping season, which affected visitation in the Meadows of Dan community. The temporary closure of the Parkway after Hurricane Helene resulted in a drastic drop in the number of travelers, impacting local businesses. During this holiday season, I encourage you to shop locally to support our community businesses in their recovery. There is still much to do and see, and we are grateful to the various groups and organizations hosting holiday festivities. Our County is beautiful and attracts visitors from all over the world, and many people are enjoying our magazines.
While visiting the Roanoke area with her parents, this young lady chose our magazine from all the tourist information available. Patrick told her she could only get one item, and we won!! As the Director of Tourism, this made me smile. Be sure to get a copy today! We are truly fortunate.
Again, please check our website, listen to WHEO, and read our local newspaper for updates on the various events over the next few months. Don’t miss out on the fun and fellowship. This is one of the best times of the year to show your support for our lovely home, and season’s greetings as we move closer to Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Remember, “Come get lost and find yourself here.”
With Love,
James Houchins
Director of Economic Development and Tourism
