Fire crews and EMS personnel spent several hours Thursday at the scene of a tractor-trailer fire, according to Steve Allen, coordinator of Patrick County Emergency Management.
Allen said the brakes on the vehicle initially caught fire. The blaze then spread to the trailer.
The truck, which contained cooking grease, was located on U.S. 58, between Blue Ridge Realty and Howell’s store at the time of the incident.
Some crews remained at the scene for eight hours, according to Allen.
“The road was so slick” that it was necessary to spread sand on the roadway, he said, adding that new dirt and grass seed also were needed along the road’s shoulder.
No injuries were reported.
