Sydney Vaughn, a freshman at Salem College in Winston-Salem, N.C., was named Rookie Pitcher of the Week after earning a 4-0 record with one save in her first four appearances last week for the Salem College Spirits softball team.
Vaughn tossed a total of 13.1 innings and struck out six batters. In a 9-0, five-inning win over Southern Virginia, Vaughn earned her first career start and victory in the circle as she pitched five scoreless innings allowing four hits with four strikeouts.
In relief, Vaughn captured two wins over Shenandoah and her first career save versus Randolph.
She is the daughter of Mike and Glenda Vaughn of Clemmons, N.C., and formerly of Stuart. She is the granddaughter of Sarah Vaughn of Stuart and the late Willie Vaughn and the late A.C. and Lillian Carter.
