Virginia “Ginny” Poirier Winters, age 80, of Stuart, died Thursday, April 28, 2016, at Pioneer Community Hospital in Stuart.
She was born in Chenango County, N.Y., on June 19, 1935 and was a daughter of the late Reginald A. Poirier and Pearl Melissa Whitmarsh Cook. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Peter E. Winters; a brother, Reginald F. Poirier; two sisters, Regina Barnhart and Lorraine Naab; and a stepmother, Grace Poirier.
She was a member of Stuart United Methodist Church. She was a previous president of the American Legion Auxiliary of South Otselic, N.Y., and was an EMT and fire person of South Otselic where she was previously a secretary. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Stuart Chapter. She was a bus driver for 16 years and had been a foster parent of 15 children.
She is survived by five children, Linda Moran of Stuart, Brandy Sue Blackburn of Lexington, N.C., John Palmer of El Paso, Tex., Burt Winters of Gloversville, N.Y., and Brenda Palimtier of Norwich, N.Y.; three stepchildren, Nancy Rowe of South Otselic, N.Y., Donald Peter Winters of Stuart and Glenn Winters of Gladstone, Ore.; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother, Frederick Poirier of Harpursville, N.Y.; several nieces and nephews; and a special dear friend, Elaine “Marie” Whitlow.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 30, 2016 at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Thomas Shepherd officiating. Burial was in Woolwine Cemetery.
