The second annual Voter Education and Candidate Forum will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 6:30 p.m. in the Virginia Motorsports Museum and Hall of Fame’s Auditorium, located in the Stuart site of Patrick Henry Community College.
The doors open at 6:15 p.m.
In the November, Patrick voters have the opportunity to elect a United States Senator and a United States Representative.
Ninth District U.S. Rep. Morgan Griffith, GOP incumbent, and Anthony Flaccavento, challenger and a Democrat from Abingdon, are scheduled to participate in the forum, as well as other local party representatives.
Town of Stuart residents also will elect Town Council members.
Patrick County Registrar Susan Taylor also will attend the forum to answer any questions about deadlines and the voting process. Taylor also will have absentee ballots on hand.
Members of the PCYP will facilitate candidate introductions. Attendees are invited to meet with candidates following the event for a short meet and greet session.
The event is hosted by the Patrick County Young Professionals (PCYP), which seeks to engage the community in the voting process.
“By hosting this event, we hope to educate community members in the voting process, to register anyone who is not yet registered to vote, and to connect voters to their candidates both on the local and state levels,” said Erica Cipko, of the PCYP.
The PCYP encourages residents to support the community by attending the event that is intended to be non-partisan and focused on voter education.
The Patrick County Young Professionals organization has been established locally for three years and seeks to better the community by connecting ambitious individuals who will inspire through their integrity, social responsibility, and commitment.
The PCYP is currently involved in hosting a monthly Trivia Night at Honduras Coffee as well as partnering with our local organizations to host the 4th Annual Stuart Spooktacular on October 31st.
