Mr. William Walter Hughes, age 72 of Stuart, Virginia passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, August 30, 2022. He was born in Syracuse, New York on May 15, 1950, to the late Walter Hughes and Dorothy Gridley Hughes. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Richard “Dick” Marsh and Lenora Hall Marsh; two brothers-in-law, David Marsh and R. Carl Grover; and his canine companions, Pumpkin, Harry, and Buddy. William loved the Lord and his church family at High Point Baptist Church. He volunteered with the Stuart Volunteer Fire Department. He was very proud of his work as the head chair of the committee for the Environmental Advisory Council for Collier County in Naples, Florida. Anyone who met William knew he had a gift of gab; he truly enjoyed meeting new people, investigating their family history, and making a new friend. He was a history buff, an avid reader, and had a passion for music. He fell in love with becoming part of the Stuart Community. He was a loving husband, devoted father, caring grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend.
Left to cherish the memory of William Hughes are his loving wife of 23 years, Yvonne Marsh Hughes; three children, LeeAnn Hughes, Jennifer Olmedo and husband, Luis, and Jonathan Hughes and wife, Sonya; six grandchildren, Christian, Mia, Oliver, Alaksander, Olivia, and Charlotte; five siblings, Joan Bell, Anne Gelgeiser and husband, Jeff, David Hughes and wife, Vera, James Hughes and wife, Carol, and John Hughes; two sisters-in-law, Rhonda Grover and Shelley Roberts and husband, James; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved cats Cuddles and Tippy.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Wayne Moore officiating. Bill and I have been friends for 52 years. I refer to him as my brother. Words cannot begin to express how heartbroken I am as is my wife Colleen, my 4 children who called him uncle Bill.
