Haleigh Rebecca Wilson and Colton Alexander Wood were united in marriage on Saturday, June 25 at five o’clock in the afternoon at Stuart Baptist Church in Stuart. The ceremony was officiated by the Reverend Tammy Franklin.
Music for the ceremony was provided by pianist Becky Nowlin, and special music was composed by the bride and groom.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roger Wilson of Stuart. She is the granddaughter of Dewey Moss and the late Barbara Moss and Mr. and Mrs. David Wilson, all of Stuart.
The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ken Wood of Chula Vista, Calif. He is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Dean Kahl and Mr. and Mrs. Bill Wood, all of Chula Vista.
Given in marriage by her parents and family, the bride was escorted by her father and was met at the altar by Tim Jones to be presented to the groom. She wore a strapless Casablanca ivory gown with a finger-tip veil. She carried a hand-tied bouquet of Virginia roses, which was wrapped with her grandfather’s flannel shirt. She wore her grandmother’s pearls and earring of the mother of the groom.
Lauren Smith, cousin of the bride, and Kylene Culler served as maids of honor. They wore floor length gowns of blush pink.
Bridesmaids included McKenzie Hill of Danville, cousin of bride, Carlee Wood of Chula Vista, sister of the groom, Laura Wilson, sister-in-law of bride, Sierra Smith, Alexis Steljes of Charlottesville, and Ashley Dudding of Craig County. They wore floor length gowns in navy; each carried a bouquet of Virginia roses.
The flower girls were Braelyn Conner, cousin of bride and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leith Conner, and Isabelle Grundy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Grundy Jr. of El Dorado, Kan. They wore tea length dresses and baby’s breath halos in their hair.
Ken Wood, father of the groom, and John Grundy Jr. of El Dorado, served as the best men. Groomsmen included Ryan Mahon of Charlottesville, Tyler Wilson, brother of the bride, Benjamin Potter of Sackets Harbor, N.Y., Michael Beecher of Chula Vista, cousin of the groom, Adrian Gomez of Chula Vista, and Robert Crosby of Bethel, Conn.. All wore gray suits with Virginia rose boutonnieres.
Declan and Liam Conner, cousins of bride and sons of Mr. and Mrs. Leith Conner, served as ring bearers.
Parker Smith and Caleb Hill, cousins of bride, and Taylor Dominguez, cousin of the groom, served as ushers. Madaya Dominguez, cousin of the groom, served as greeter.
Cathy Swails served as the wedding director. Teresa Jones completed the bride’s, bridesmaids’, and flower girls’ hair and make-up.
The bride’s family hosted a dinner and reception at the Star Theatre following the wedding. A meal was prepared by Mitch Sheppard and Chelsea Raby. The wedding cake was prepared by Laura Wilson, sister-in-law of the bride. Vicki Brammer and Ashlee Hall assisted in serving the cake.
The bride is a graduate of Patrick County High School. She graduated from Randolph College in Lynchburg with a bachelor of science degree in biology, and a minor in chemistry. She will begin the master’s program in biotechnology at California State University at San Marcos this fall. She works for Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices in San Diego, Calif.
The groom is a graduate of Otay Ranch High School in Chula Vista. He graduated from Randolph College in Lynchburg with a bachelor of science in physics. He is currently enrolled in John Hopkins University to complete a masters degree in systems engineering. He works for Digital Force Technology in San Diego.
Couple honored
Many celebrations were held for the couple. Laura Smith and Lyn Hill, aunts of the bride, and Teresa Jones hosted a gift card shower. Ken and Kerri Wood hosted a pre-wedding celebration at their home in Chula Vista.
A golf tournament was held at Gordon Trent Golf Club, hosted by Ken Wood, father of the groom. A low country boil followed, hosted by Ronnie and Laura Smith and Tony and Lyn Hill at the Smith home. Lauren Smith and Kylene Culler hosted a bachelorette party at the Smith home.
The groom’s family hosted a night of bowling for the groom and groomsmen. Kylene Culler and family served the bridal party breakfast on the day of the wedding.
Gatherings were also held at Tim and Teresa Jones’ home during the wedding weekend. The family of the groom hosted a barbecue dinner following the rehearsal at the bride’s home. The parents of the groom later hosted a reception for the newlyweds in August at their home in Chula Vista.
The Woods make their home in San Diego.
