Sixty-two students entered the 2022 Patrick County 4-H County Speech/Presentation Contest on Friday, February 25 at Patrick & Henry Community College in Stuart. Overall winners in grades fourth and fifth and blue-ribbon recipients in grades sixth and seventh were chosen to advance to 2022 Area Contest, to be held virtually in April, where they will compete with students from Floyd, Giles, Montgomery and Pulaski counties.
Fourth-grade students advancing to area contest in the personal narrative category include Kiah Jackson, 1st place, (Stuart Elementary), Adilynn Jones, 2nd place, (Stuart Elementary), and alternate Kaden Gravely (Stuart Elementary).
Fifth-grade students advancing to area contest competing in the persuasive speech category include Audrey McGhee, 1st place, (Stuart Elementary), Reagan Underwood, 2nd place, (Hardin Reynolds Memorial School) and alternate Gracie Caldwell (Woolwine Elementary).
Sixth- grade overall winners in group one includes Owen Jenkins, 1st place, (Blue Ridge Elementary), Kyleigh Wilborn, 2nd place, (Blue Ridge Elementary), and alternates Olivia Kendrick (Hardin Reynolds Memorial School) and Sierra Helms (Hardin Reynolds Memorial School). Sixth grade overall winners in group two includes Leah Kendrick, 1st place, (Woolwine Elementary), Sheyan Lester, 2nd place, (Hardin Reynolds Memorial School), and alternate Meredith Wood (Meadows of Dan Elementary School). Sixth grade blue ribbon recipients, advancing to area contest in the presentation category include Kyleigh Wilborn (Blue Ridge Elementary), alternates Owen Jenkins (Blue Ridge School), Olivia Kendrick (Hardin Reynolds Memorial School), Sierra Helms (Hardin Reynolds Memorial School), Layla Thompson (Blue Ridge Elementary School), Leah Kendrick (Woolwine Elementary School), Christian Pendleton (Stuart Elementary School), Meredith Wood (Meadows of Dan Elementary School), and Sheyan Lester (Hardin Reynolds Memorial School).
Seventh-grade overall winners include Elyjah Jenkins, 1st place, (Blue Ridge Elementary), Noah Becker, 2nd place, (Stuart Elementary), and alternate Lily Kelly (Meadows of Dan Elementary). Seventh grade blue ribbon recipients, advancing to area contest in the presentation category include Elyjah Jenkins (Blue Ridge Elementary), Sierra Easter, (Blue Ridge Elementary), Julianna Henagin (Hardin Reynolds Memorial School), Page Whitt (Meadows of Dan Elementary), Lily Kelley (Meadows of Dan Elementary), and Noah Becker (Stuart Elementary).
Students participating in the fourth-grade speech category included Maci Whitlock, Kira Barker, Landon Eidson, Shyanna Murphy, Adilynn Jones, Pagan Smith, Milli Foley, Eli Briley, Bryson Turman, Kiah Jackson, Danica Swisher, Steven Fain, Josiah Vessell, Grant Iacovone, and Kaden Gravely. Students participating in the fifth-grade speech category included Bryce Martin, Bella Wright, Gage Whitaker, Evan Vargas, Gabby Reynolds, Andrew Stewart, Ava Rigney, Cooper Wikstrom, Sarah Hagwood, Cali Biggs, Reagan Underwood, Sky Evans, Lilly Boyce, Caleb Howell, Delia Jordan, Jillian Turner, Harmoni Carter, Audrey McGhee, Corrynn McAlexander, Ainsley Lawson, and Gracie Caldwell.
Students participating in the sixth-grade presentation category include Kyleigh Wilborn, Owen Jenkins, Olivia Kendrick, Sierra Helms, Layla Thompson, Arabella Haynes, Madelyn Martin, Olivia Clifton, Leah Kendrick, Christian Pendleton, Meredith Wood, Sheyan Lester, Briar Branch, Isabella Clarke, Rain Davis, Peyton Kelley, and Nathan Rakes. Students participating in the seventh-grade presentation category include Elyjah Jenkins, Sierra Easter, Julianna Henagin, Paige Whitt, Lily Kelly, Noah Becker, and Jazmyn Whitt.
Our judges for this event were very impressed with the presentation skills of these students and provided helpful and supportive feedback to every participant. Judges this year included Sandra Heath, Phyllis Eastridge, Teresa Rakes, Christian Taylor, Margie Nowlin, Robin Amos, Kristy Hughes, Tamika Reynolds, Terri Alt, and Angie Brown.
