The Patrick County Varsity Wrestling Team traveled to Halifax for a quad match on Tuesday, November 30, defeating Halifax County 78-3 and Bassett 66-18.
Martinsville was unable to participate.
The Cougars started off the season 2-0 with these two district wins. For the first time in many years, the Cougars were able to fill all weight classes.
The coaching staff said they are excited about this young group of wrestlers and the progress being made.
“We are young, but this group is working hard and improving every day. It will take some time, but the potential is there if we just keep plugging away and get some mat time,” coaching staff said. “Josh Wright and Jaheim Johnson are the 2 senior captains and are doing a great job of providing leadership for this group. Trent Alexander, Tristan Hardy, and Ethan Cobbler are also helping pave the path for this group.”
The Cougars are scheduled to host the first home match on Wednesday, December 8 at 6 p.m. This match will be a quad match with 4 participating schools. In addition to Patrick County, schools are Magna Vista, Martinsville, and Dan River.
Each team will wrestle three matches each.
