The Patrick County Youth Wrestling team wrapped up its second season this past Saturday at South Stokes High School’s Spring Tomahawk Open. The team entered 13 wrestlers in the round-robin style tournament.
Four wrestlers took first place in their respective weight classes: Leia Cobbler, age 5; Whit Reneger, age 6; Hunter Corns, age 8; and Colton Hall, age 9.
The team had four wrestlers, including Coach Andrew Taylor, finish second in their respective divisions: Logan Rakes, age 9; Tyler Cobbler, age 9; and Broc Taylor, age 10. The team also had two wrestlers finish with third place medals: Reid Corns, age 7, and Trent Alexander, age 12.This was the second tournament the team traveled to this season; 14 of the team’s wrestlers competed in the 2016 Franklin County Kahila Moonshine Classic. Colton Hall, Hunter Corns, Reid Corns, and Eli Lester, age 7, each finished second in their respective weight classes. Broc Taylor took third place in his division. This tournament was the first the team had ever entered and the club finished eighth out of 31 clubs.Patrick County Youth Wrestling will begin its new season in November. The program is for area youth in kindergarten through sixth grade. The club averages two practices per week during the evenings throughout the season.
