Maynard Orby “Chub” Harris, 81, of Stanardsville, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016.
He was born March 31, 1935 in Meadows of Dan, son of the late Matthew Orby Harris and Ruth Wood Harris. He was also preceded in death by brothers, John Wayne Harris and William Ray Harris.
He was a member of the Piedmont Stella Masonic Lodge No. 50 for 52 years and an honorary member of King Solomon’s Masonic Lodge No. 194. He retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation as a soil laboratory supervising technician in Charlottesville after 32 years of service. This job afforded him the opportunity to travel the entire state of Virginia.
Maynard is survived by his wife, Jane Slate Harris; daughter, Gwendolyn Harris Darby and her husband Thomas Edward Darby III of Mechanicsville; grandson, Thomas Edward Darby IV of Mechanicsville; sisters, Roxie Bailey and Reba Pruett, both of Bluefield, W.Va., and Merle Byrd of Collinsville; brother, Blaine Harris and his wife Wavie of San Antonio, Tex., and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a. m., Saturday, June 11, 2016, at the Moody Funeral Home in Stuart conducted by the Rev. Shawn Carter. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
The interment will follow in the Meadows of Dan Baptist Church Cemetery with military rites by the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Honor Guard.
