ALVIN HUGH FAIN
Alvin Hugh Fain, age 80, of Patrick Springs, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018, at the Blue Ridge Therapy Connection in Stuart, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Patrick County on April 11, 1938, to the late Hobert M. Fain and Ida Dollarhite Fain. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Calvin Fain and two infant brothers. He faithfully served in the United States Army. He was well known throughout the livestock community and took pride in working the cattle on his farm. He truly loved his family and enjoyed being Papa to his grandchildren.
He is survived by his son, Eric Fain, of Stuart; three grandchildren, Ethan Fain, Kierstyn Fain, and Collin Fain; one brother, Melvin Fain and wife, Shelby of Stuart; three sisters, Mildred Clement and husband, Johnny, June Williams, and Opal Wilson, all of Stuart; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018, at 2 p.m. at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Gary Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Fain-Handy Cemetery on Rye Cove Creek Road. Military rites will be conducted by the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard. DONALD RAY CRANK
Donald Ray Crank, age 75, of Meadows of Dan, passed away at the Joan and Howard Woltz Hospice Home in Dobson, N.C. He was born in West Virginia on April 5, 1943, to the late Simon Crank and Elvie Blevins Crank. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one step-brother, Donald Crank. Donald was a longtime truck driver and enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two daughters, Gayle Garnett of Richmond, and Deborah Augustine, of Meadows of Dan; two grandsons, Landon Augustine and Braedon Augustine; and one brother, Edward Crank and wife, Faye of Meadows of Dan.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, November 8, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Stuart with Pastor Mike Magnani officiating. Burial will follow in the Knowles-Eden Cemetery in Meadows of Dan. MINNIE ELIZABETH STIRCKLAND MARTIN
Minnie Elizabeth Strickland Martin, age 93, of Stuart, passed away Friday, November 02, 2018, at her home. She was born in Pittsylvania County on December 7, 1924, to the late Lucian Strickland and Lady Lois Martin Strickland. She graduated from George Washington High School in Danville and received her Associate’s Degree in Art at Patrick Henry Community College after retiring as a Chemistry Lab Analyst from DuPont for over 37 years. She had been a member of Stuart Presbyterian Church since the church was built. Her and her husband loved traveling, having visited all 50 states and 25 to 30 foreign countries. While traveling they always stopped to go to church and made numerous friendships through square dancing. They won numerous awards all over the world square dancing. She had worked 48 years on the Board of Elections. She was an avid painter, sculptor, bowler, and softball pitcher. She loved the Red Sox, snow skiing, and water skiing.
Surviving are her beloved husband of 72 years, James Freddie Martin of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Bobby Blake of Durham, N.C.; two grandchildren, Rebecca Blake, Elizabeth Blake Beyle and husband, Jon; five great grandchildren, Taylor Rebecca Beyle, Joshua Michael Blake and wife, Abby, Jordan Elizabeth Beyle, Andrew Horton Blake, Jon Ward Beyle and Melissa; a brother, Billy Franklin Hinton of Dry Fork; a niece, Trudy Hinton; and nephew, Larry Hinton and wife, Lou.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 4, 2018, at Stuart Presbyterian Church with Pastor Danny Redman officiating. Burial was in the Patrick Memorial Gardens.
