The 2016 Patrick County real estate tax statements are being mailed on Thursday, April 28, according to a news release from the office of Treasurer Sandra Stone.
The statement design is the same as in year 2015—one statement with two payment stubs. The first half of the 2016 real estate tax is due June 6 and the second half is due December 5.
Taxpayers are mailed one notice for each real estate parcel owned and it is up to the taxpayer to bring or mail their payment by each due date; no reminder notice will be mailed.
Please read the statement carefully. Each stub states the appropriate due date and amount. Please note that the amount due on each stub is not always the same so make sure to send the correct payment with the correct stub.
If taxpayers wish, they may pay the annual amount in full by sending both payment stubs, along with the annual amount, by the June 6 due date.
A 10% penalty is added to the first half of unpaid taxes on June 7. Interest at a rate of 10% per annum will begin to accrue on unpaid taxes and penalty 26 days after each due date. An insert is included with the tax statements explaining the real estate due dates.
If taxpayers do not receive their 2016 real estate tax notice by the middle of May, they are asked to call the treasurer’s office at 276-694-7257.
The Patrick County Treasurer’s Office is located in Room 221 of the Patrick County Veterans’ Memorial Building (county administration building) in Stuart.
The mailing address is P.O. Box 668, Stuart, VA 24171.
