Mike Chaney, a carpenter and employee of the Patrick County Maintenance Department, constructed this model of the Bob White Covered Bridge, which washed away due to flooding in the fall of 2015. Chaney built the bridge with oak wood from the covered bridge that was left over from repairs. It is on display at the Patrick County Branch Library.

Plans are underway for the 13th annual Virginia Covered Bridge Festival.

The event will be held on Saturday, June 17 in Woolwine from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Visitors to the festival can expect to be entertained by several live music genres, including bluegrass, country, blues, Americana, old time and gospel, at two separate locations near Jacks Creek Covered Bridge and the site of the former Bob White Covered Bridge.

The festival will again include horse and mule drawn wagon rides for a small fee.

As in years past, a 5K run will incorporate into its route a bridge-to-bridge course, with other activities that include artisan, craft and food vendors, the much anticipated “duck race” in the river near Jacks Creek Bridge, and various activities for children.

Patrick County is the proud owner of one of the few covered bridges still remaining in the state which, along with the local festival, received recognition during the 2007 session of the Virginia General Assembly.

The public is invited to attend and “experience the simple life” as this festival showcases the covered bridge and surrounding area.

There is no admission charge and free parking is available near both bridge sites.

For further information, visit the Virginia Covered Bridge Festival Facebook page or www.visitpatrickcounty.org.

The festival is hosted and manned by Woolwine residents, the Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department, and the Smith River Rescue Squad.
