Ralph Barnard, founder of the Meadows of Dan Backpack Program, holds a package of the food which is given to children in the program each week.

A Paint Night will be held May 19 at Meadows of Dan Elementary School to benefit the school’s backpack program.

Instructor and artist Grace Helms will guide participants in painting a cardinal during the event that begins at 6 p.m. Painting is from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The fee to participate is $35 per person for those who pre-register, or $40 at the door.

Fees include all materials. Light refreshments and finger foods also will be provided.

The backpack program is designed to ensure youngsters have something to eat over the weekend. Packages include foods that are easily prepared at home.

The backpack program supplies book bags of food to the 40 youngsters participating. Participants are in pre-K though seventh grade.

The program was incorporated as a nonprofit agency in 2009 and youngsters must be approved to participate.

To pre-register, or for additional information, call Angela Keith at (276) 952-2424.
