Wilma Lawson Padgett passed away on March 10, 2016, at Crest View Villa in Parkville, MD; wife of Alvin L. Padgett.
She was born on November 19, 1931, the eleventh child of the late Turner Madison and Lucinda Agnes (Shelor) Lawson in Meadows of Dan.
In 1949 Wilma graduated from Meadows of Dan High School in Meadows of Dan. After working and living in Richmond for several years, she and her husband moved to Maryland. She continued her formal education at Towson University where she received a Bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Human Resources. She retired from CSX Transportation after 27 years of service.
Wilma developed an interest in genealogy by researching and compiling books about her ancestors. Those books were published and have been used for reference/information by multigenerational members of the family. In addition to traveling with her husband, she played golf, used her artistic talents to create homemade greeting cards, served as a volunteer at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center in Towson, MD, sang with the church choir and performed solos, used her ballroom dancing skill to participate in a fund-raiser held at her retirement home, and was an active member in church in the communities where she lived.
In addition to her husband, Wilma is survived by one step-daughter, Deborah Padgett, one step-son, Glen Padgett; grandchildren, Jeff, Lisa, and Julie; also survived by great-grandchildren, Patrick, Laura, Nicholas, Daniel, Ethan, Andrew; one sister, Irene L. Simpson, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathryn Anne Padgett, step-daughter, Susan Padgett Dandois; two grandchildren, Lindsay and David; four brothers, Matt, Floyd, John Ellis, and Guy Lawson, and six sisters, Ida Cruise, Edna Cockram, Susannah Lawson, Orene Harris, Lila Buchanan and Clara Desper.
