Nowlin, age 71, of Stuart, died Friday, March 18, 2016, at his home. He was born in Danville on May 13, 1944, and was a son of the late Charlie E. Nowlin and Lillie “Laura” Penn Nowlin. He was also preceded in death by an infant sister, Penny O’Neal; and a brother, Rev. James “Dobbie” Nowlin. He had been a heavy equipment operator for many years and had attended New Hope Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Barbara Griffith Nowlin of the home; five sisters and brothers-in-law, Stella and James Hairston of Eden, N.C., Linda and Willie Clark of Martinsville, Janice Nowlin of Patrick Springs, Sandra Nowlin of Stuart, and Ann and David Watlington of Belews Creek, N.C;. one brother, Leroy Nowlin of Patrick Springs; and a nephew and several nieces. Funeral services were held Tuesday at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Pastor Douglas Scales officiating. Burial was in the Loggins family cemetery.
