Pearl Light Joyce Martin, 93, of Bassett, died on Tuesday, March 15, 2016, at Blue Ridge Village in Martinsville.
She was born in Patrick County on July 15, 1922 and was a daughter of the late William C. Light and Chanie Oliver Light Thomas. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Ford Martin; two infant sons, Joseph and Joshua Joyce; brothers, Edgar M. Oliver, Everett Glen Light, William Russell Light and Harding Walter Light; a half-brother, Charles Edgar Light; and half-sisters, Eunice L. Light, Nellie Dehl and Pocahontas Howell.
She was a member of First Baptist Church of Bassett and retired from Bassett-Walker after working 36 years. She was a member of the Patrick Henry Rose Society where she had served on numerous offices. She was also a member of the Town and Country Garden Club.
Surviving are one daughter, Audrey Joyce Tatum of Collinsville; two sons, Lynwood E Joyce of Danville and Alfred D. Joyce of Bassett; stepdaughters, Susan Martin Stone of Bassett and Bonnie Martin Hagen of New Hope, Ala.; one stepson, John Martin of Bassett, several nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held Friday at First Baptist Church of Bassett with Dr. Lew Bennett and Monroe Light officiating. Burial was in Henry Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Bassett, P.O. Box 557, Bassett, VA 24055.
