The following requests for information have been received by the Patrick County Genealogy Society.
• Does anyone have a picture of Frances Fry? Frances Fry was the daughter of Nancy Fry. Nancy Fry was the daughter of Benjamin Frye and Frances Fanny McHone and granddaughter of John Fry and Nancy Collins. Nancy Fry married 1) Ephraim Epperson on 9/10/1844 in Stokes County, N.C., and 2) Oliver Pruitt. Nancy and Ephraim had sons John and Archy.
In the 1850 census Frances is listed in the household of Nancy and Ephraim Epperson. However, her birth is before Nancy and Ephraim’s marriage by one year. Nancy married Oliver Pruett on 4/18/1853 in Stokes County.
Oliver was the son of Martin Pruitt and Ursley Nunn, and he was brother to Isham Pruitt who married Frances Fry. Nancy and Oliver had children Ruth, Tempy, Juriah, and Benjamin. Juriah’s son ends up marrying one of Frances Fry’s grandchildren.
Oliver Pruitt is buried at the Peter Overby Cemetery in Stokes County. Isham Pruitt married Frances Fry on 8/9/1860 in Stokes County. In the 1910 Patrick County census, Isham and Frances are residing in the household of Thomas and Barbara New Pruitt. At that time, Thomas and Barbara had children: Daisy, Granville, and Elzie. Isham was 80 and Frances was 66.
I know when my great-great-grandmother, Martha Ann Pruitt Kappel died on 3/20/1952 in North Carolina it states on her Certificate of Death that her parents were Isom (Isham) Pruitt and Frances Frye. On the Certificate of Death for Thomas Pruitt who died 11/15/1960 in North Carolina, it states that his parents were Isam (Isham) Pruitt and Frances Frie.
Isham and Frances had five children: Martha Ann (m. Isham Pruitt), John Million (Milton, married Mary Stephens), Ida (m. Gabriel Mitchell), Thomas (m. Barbara New), and an unnamed male child who died. Isham served in Co. G of the 53rd NC Infantry as a private. He died 3/21/1916 in Virginia.
Martha Ann Pruitt married Augustus Kappel on 10/2/1884 at the residence of Isham Pruitt in Patrick County. Martha Ann and Augustus had four children: Venus Victoria, Uranus Katherine, Ida I.V., and Penny Silver May (Mary).
