Elton Biggs Gilley, 89, Collinsville, died Thursday, June 2, 2016.
He was born on April 30, 1927 in Patrick Springs to the late Hulda Biggs Gilley and Bert Sylvester Gilley. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Jeanette Spearman Gilley; second wife, Brooksie Ratliff Barker Gilley; a daughter, Martha Barker Sawyers; a son, Jerry Barker; and a brother, Ausby S. Gilley.
He was a member of McCabe Memorial Baptist Church and served in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of Masonic Piedmont Lodge #152 A.F and A.M., VFW Post #4367, American Legion Post #11, and Knights of Pythias Lodge #82
Gilley was a Little League coach, Pony League coach and was an avid bowler and golfer. He retired from E.I. DuPont after more than forty years.
Surviving are his daughters, Deborah Gilley Wright of Stafford, and Mary Jo Greenwood of Collinsville; one son, Bert Anderson “Andy” Gilley of Ridgeway; and sisters, Emogene Dillon and Mary Lee Jessie both of Martinsville; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral service was held on Sunday at McCabe Memorial Baptist Church with Dr. G.H. Vaughn officiating. Internment was at Roselawn Burial Park.
Pallbearers were, Chad Wright, Todd Greenwood, Pete Williams, Marvin Sawyers, Brandon Miller, Gavin Payne, Colby Payne and Wayne Gilley.
Memorials may be made to McCabe Memorial Baptist Church, 107 Clearview Dr., Martinsville, Va. 24112.
