The Meadows of Dan Volunteer Fire Department is hosting a virtual pancake breakfast via GoFundMe.
Jeff Muller, of the fire department, said the pancake breakfast is the only fundraiser the agency holds each year.
Proceeds help to fund the department’s essential services.
“The pancake breakfast brings in approximately $12,000 each year, which is sometimes shared with the rescue squad, depending on the need,” Muller said.
This year, the fire department hopes to reach its $5,000 goal, which is “less than half of what we normally raise,” Muller said.
The pancake breakfast began more than 50 years ago by the Meadows of Dan Ruritan Club, which continues to collaborate on the event. The event normally takes place the 3rd and the 4th weekends of October, with a $10 admission providing an all you can eat pancakes and sausage and gravy buffet.
The GoFundMe will be open through Oct. 31. As of Friday, Oct. 10 the GoFundMe has raised $580 of the $5,000 goal from 10 individual donors.
