We had quite a storm recently with lots of wind, rain, hail and widespread power outages (over 3,000 in Patrick), but remember it could have been worse. Just think about the folks in West Virginia, where so many have no homes or possessions.
It was so good to see Linda Pack and her family at Elizabeth’s Pizza the other day.
I surely did enjoy the ice cream social at Concord United Methodist Church. They are famous for ice cream. Orange pineapple is my favorite, and I sampled the Butterfinger. It was good. And I got to hear one of my favorite people sing. Mike Hall does a great job, and his CD is wonderful.
With all the stuff going on in our neighborhood, wild animals are coming out in full force and we are seeing a lot of red mud these days. Seems there’s never a dull moment.
Richard Rogers of WHEO and Jimmy Willard traveled to West Virginia with a truckload of food, water and other items donated by Patrick County residents and saw first-hand the great need there. There are still people missing. Let’s continue to pray for the families and all the workers also. They have a long road ahead.
It was nice to have time to sit down and have a nice talk with Van Rowe at The Soup Kitchen. Usually everybody is in a big rush.
“Blueberry Hill” blueberries are getting ripe. I’ve seen several people picking this week. There’s nothing like fresh blueberries straight from the bush. When I pick I always have to sample some.
Thanks to some teens from the Patrick Springs Pentecostal Holiness Church for helping us ladies with some heavy boxes of food at the Food Ministry. You were a blessing.
Thanks to my friend Curt for the best cantaloupe ever!
Household hint: Hold a nail in place with a comb while hammering. You will be less likely to hit the wrong nail (your fingernail).
DOUGHNUTS
THE EASY WAY
1 can biscuits
Cooking oil
Sugar and cinnamon or powdered sugar or glaze
Cut a hole in the center of each biscuit. Fry in oil. Roll in sugar and cinnamon. Fry the “centers” too. For crisp doughnuts: separate layers of biscuits, and follow instructions above.
Food for thought:
When you think about a problem over and over in your mind, that’s called worry. When you think about God’s word over and over in your mind, that’s called meditation. If we know how to worry, we already know how to meditate.

Pictured are Dalton and Chelsey Spencer Emershaw on their wedding day, June 13, in Norton. Chelsey is the former Chelsey Spencer, the daughter of Leroy and Jackie Spencer of Patrick Springs. What a handsome couple! We wish you the very best.
