The Patrick County Master Gardeners (PCMG) will hold its 13th annual Spring Garden Symposium on Saturday, March 12.
The event will be held at the Patrick & Henry Community College (P&HCC) Stuart Campus. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. The symposium will begin at 9 a.m.
PCMG president Norma Bozenmayer said the symposium is to provide education to the local community.
“We have three really good educational speakers coming to talk about things relating to gardening. It’s our way to give back to the community and supply education. It’s also for us to have these speakers come in,” she said.
Patrick County native Wyatt Bottorff is scheduled to discuss how to identify living things on your property from 9:10 to 10:10 a.m.
Mark Blevins, B.S., MS, and PhD will give a presentation on “Reading the Weeds” from 10:40 to 11:40 a.m.
Amanda Wilkins, B.S., MS will give a talk on interesting plants for the Southeastern Garden, from 1 to 2 p.m.
Bozenmayer said the symposium is always well attended, with guests coming from Danville and Roanoke to hear the guest speakers.
Vendors from semi-local gardening shops will be onsite selling a variety of gardening products.
“So, people can look around, shop a little, listen to the speakers, and eat a box lunch. It’s just a wonderful day,” she said.
Attendees must adhere to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and college requirements in place as of March 12. Masks will be provided, if needed.
