The Patrick County Master Gardeners received a $1,000 microgrant for their Learning Garden, ‘Neighbors Feeding Neighbors,” on Tudor Orchard Road. The grant was the result of Ed Coleman’s efforts in writing a detailed description of the garden’s three-year operation that offers free monthly gardening workshops to the community as well as maintains a demonstration garden, growing and donating organically grown food to local food pantries and the soup kitchen.
The project was recognized by the state Virginia Extension office based on the Patrick County Master Gardeners’ strong dedication to the EMG mission of sharing knowledge and empowering communities.
The recognition was one of only five given for the entire state of Virginia.
The 2nd Learning Garden workshop of the 2023 season was held Saturday to a large number of interested gardeners. Topics were companion planting, building raised beds and container gardening.
The next workshop on June 3 will focus on growing berries. It begins at 10 a.m. at 1208 Tudor Orchard Road.
