Miss Deborah Ann “Debbie” Montgomery, 71, of Ararat, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday afternoon, November 10, 2024, at her home. Miss Montgomery was born October 17, 1953, in Patrick County, VA, one of nine children born to the late Warren and Gertrude Mabe Montgomery.
Debbie grew up in Ararat, VA, and graduated from Patrick County High School in 1971. For 50 years, Debbie was more than just a hairdresser – she was a confidante, a stylist, and a source of unwavering kindness to everyone who walked through the salon door. Known for her meticulous attention to detail, creative flair, and warm personality, Debbie transformed not only hair but lives, making every client feel valued and beautiful. Whether cutting, coloring, styling, or simply offering a listening ear, she had an uncanny ability to make each person who sat in her chair feel at ease. Debbie believed in the power of a great haircut to boost confidence and change a person’s day, and over the years, she built a loyal clientele that spanned generations. Outside Debbie’s Cut and Style, she was passionate about gardening, canning, and sharing recipes.
She is survived by three sisters and a brother-in-law, Mary Ayers, Ardith and Wayne Maxwell, and Margaret Page; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Harry Montgomery, Tim and Andra Montgomery, and Charles and Patty Montgomery; several nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Michelle Smith; and a special friend, Judy Flake. In addition to her parents, Miss Montgomery was preceded in death by two brothers, Warren “Sonny” Montgomery, Jr. and James Bernard Montgomery.
The funeral service will be held Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Moody Funeral Home Chapel in Mount Airy, with the Rev. Buford E. Jessup officiating. Burial will follow in the Montgomery Family Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
