The Ararat Volunteer Rescue Squad (AVRS) is highlighting “one of Patrick County’s finest: Mary “Leann” Bowman. A veteran of Advanced Life Support (ALS), Leann is both a dedicated volunteer AVRS and a full-time employee of Jeb Stuart Rescue. At the annual Christmas Dinner on December 2, the AVRS recognized Ms. Bowman as the “ALS Provider of the Year” for responding to the highest number of ALS calls in the AVRS district as a volunteer.
When asked about her work, Ms. Bowman proudly said, “I serve.”
Those who know Leann can attest to this, as she actively serves the citizens of Patrick County at Jeb Stuart and dedicates her free time to volunteering with AVRS, providing life-saving assistance to the Ararat community. Additionally, she serves her church family at Trinity Baptist Church and volunteers with Red Bank Ruritans.
Pictured with Leann is another valuable member of the AVRS and Patrick County’s EMS community, Captain Mike Fulk. Mike has served the Ararat community for several years. He also was recognized on December 2, as “EMT of the Year” and “EVOC of the Year” in the AVRS district. He embodies a true servant heart, and his dedication is evident as he represents Patrick County on various EMS committees.
Mike also contributes his time at his home church, Hunter’s Chapel, and with the Red Bank and Ararat Ruritans. As Patrick County counts its blessings this holiday season, Ms. Bowman and Mr. Fulk are two incredible individuals who help keep our Ararat community safe and healthy.
