Woodrow Franklin Plaster, 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Roanoke Memorial Hospital on Saturday, January 4, 2025. He was born on August 12, 1944, in Patrick County, VA, to Woodrow and Dessa Turner Plaster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death, by brothers Harold Plaster and Herbert Plaster, and his son Langdon Plaster.
Frank graduated from Bassett High School. He spent most of his adult life working in telecommunications, beginning his career at Lee Telephone Co. and retiring 35 years later from Sprint. After retirement, he proudly became the proprietor of the farm once owned by his grandfather Turner. He worked tirelessly raising beef cattle and took great pride in maintaining the farm’s appearance.
Frank was also a well-known local musician. For many years, he and his band, including his wife, Violet, and his son, Kevin, played for dances in the area. Though somewhat shy by nature, he took pleasure in bringing joy to others through his music. Frank and Violet also frequently performed special music at their church, Mount Bethel United Methodist, where they had been devoted members for many years.
Frank is survived by his loving wife of 59 years and caregiver, Violet Hubbard Plaster; his son, Kevin Franklin Plaster; daughter-in-law, Courtney Carter Plaster; and his beloved granddaughters, Eve Plaster and Zoe Plaster. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Rakes and Rita Griffin; brother-in-law, Frank Griffin; and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Plaster.
