Sam Gunter, of Patrick County, Virginia, was born on September 11, 1969, in Patrick County, and passed away on October 31, 2025, surrounded by his family.
Sam grew up in Patrick Springs and graduated from Patrick County High School. In his early years, he spent time traveling and pursuing various interests before returning home to Patrick County after the birth of his first son, Jacob. Sam went on to have three more children, Sarah, Emily, and Sammy, whom he loved dearly.
A devoted father and proud grandfather, Sam’s greatest joy came from his family. His three granddaughters—Delilah, Gray, and Elysia—were the light of his life, and he never missed a chance to share stories about them. He also cherished his “grandpups” Lincoln, Nixon, Calli, Nala, Odin, and Scarlett.
Sam had a lifelong passion for cars and motorcycles, especially his beloved Mustangs and Triumphs. He also had a deep love for music, particularly guitars and drums. Sam loved seeing live shows and attending music festivals, where he could enjoy great performances and connect with others who shared his passion for sound and rhythm.
A true entrepreneur at heart, Sam pursued many business ventures over the years. Most recently, he found great pride and purpose as a rental property owner and manager, where he enjoyed working with his tenants and taking care of his properties. He took satisfaction in knowing his work had a positive impact on others’ lives.
Sam stayed busy, always working on a new project, buying or selling something, or lending a hand where it was needed. His energy, humor, and determination left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Sam was preceded in death by his father, William Hayes Gunter, and by his siblings Christopher Gunter, Christy Myers, Adam Gunter, and Amy Sandoval. He is survived by his parents Herbert Gray Myers and Jennifer Daryl Gregory; his siblings Jerri Sigmon, Pam Tolliver, Rebekah Baker, and Tiffany Bateman; his children Jacob Gunter (Lauryn) of Richmond, VA, Sarah Gunter (Tristan) of Bassett, VA, Emily Gunter (Adam) of Collinsville, VA, and Sammy Gunter of Patrick Springs, VA; and his granddaughters Delilah Jane, Gray Rose, and Elysia Ann.
A funeral service was held on Sunday, November 9, at Moody Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at the Gunter Family Cemetery.
Sam will be remembered for his hard work, his sense of humor, his love of music and machines, and, above all, his deep devotion to family. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
