Surry Community College is offering an Introduction to Early Childhood Education, EDU-119, course beginning January 9, 2026, and running through May 11, 2026.

Those who complete EDU-119 with a “C” or better are awarded the N.C. Child Care Credential. Upon completion, students should be able to design a career/professional development plan and appropriate environments, schedules, and activity plans.

This course introduces the foundations of early childhood education, the diverse educational settings for young children, professionalism, and planning intentional developmentally appropriate experiences for each child.

Topics discussed in class include theoretical foundations, national early learning standards, N.C. Foundations for Early Learning and Development, state regulations, program types, career options, professionalism, ethical conduct, quality inclusive environments, and curriculum responsive to the needs of each child/family.

Tuition is $76 per credit hour. Spring registration is currently underway. For more information, or to register, contact Kayla Norman, Lead Instructor of Education. For help with college application, class registration, or financial aid, contact Student Services at (336) 386-3264, or studentservices@surry.edu. The deadline to register is January 5, 2026.
