A property used by Primland Resort for employee housing caught fire earlier this month resulting in a loss for the business.
Meadows of Dan Volunteer Fire Department Captain Ronald Terry said the call came in at 1:23 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 3.
Terry is unsure when the fire initially started.
“Primland has a lot of those houses and cottages that has fire detection alarms and stuff in it, and we get notified right away. This one didn’t, so it was going for a while before we got notified. That was the biggest reason it done as much damage as it did, that the flames were already coming out the windows and showing before anybody knew anything about it,” he said.
While the property is used by employees, Terry said no one had been staying there for about a month before the fire.
“It had been three weeks since anybody had been in the door of the house, so more than likely it was something electrical. There were some electrical baseboard heaters in the house, so it was something to do with electrical. That was the only thing really going in the house that could have started anything,” he said.
As he was focused on getting everything under control, Terry is unsure how long it took to knock the fire down. However, he noted it didn’t take very long.
“The biggest part of the time was spent just cleaning up, making sure we got all of the hotspots so it didn’t come and start back up and that kind of thing,” he said.
Because of the extensive damage, Terry said the property is a total loss.
In addition to Meadows of Dan being toned out as the primary, Stuart Volunteer Fire Department, Patrick Springs Volunteer Fire Department, Woolwine Volunteer Fire Department, Laurel Fork Volunteer Fire Department, and Station 8 also responded to the call.
Representatives with Primland Resorts, Auberge Collection declined to comment until an investigation into the fire could be completed.
