Varsity Softball Goes the Distance in Bedford

The Lady Cougars Varsity Softball Team traveled to Liberty-Bedford Monday night, taking an exciting 15-12 win after a 4-hour, 13 inning game. Taylor Lawless had 3 hits for the Cougars and Journey Moore, Lacey Sutphin, and Chloe Hubbard each had a pair of hits. Sutphin had 3 RBIs and Moore scored 5 runs. Hayden Lawless went 4 innings on the mound. Jenna Woods, Gracie Marshall, and Journey Moore all went to the circle during the marathon game. Moore was credited with the win.

JV Girls Softball Defeats Liberty Bedford

The PCHS JV Girls Softball Team got a 9-3 win on the road at Liberty Bedford, Tuesday, March 24. Savannah Fain had three hits in five at bats in the win. Fain got a double in the 5th inning, a single in the 6th, and a single in the 2nd. Addy Foley started the 1st inning with a walk, scoring a run on an error. An additional error scored two more runs. Riley Hostetter singled, scoring the 4th run for the Lady Cougars. Foley started in the circle for PC, striking out 3, walking 2, and allowing no hits and no runs in 3 innings. Fain and Cassidy Brim each pitched in relief. Deliah Jordan went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with three RBIs. Hostetter collected two hits. Bailey Thompson was walked 3 times, and the Cougars were walked 11 times throughout the game.

Patrick County Boys Tennis Gets Win

The Patrick County Boys Tennis Team opened up their season with an 8-1 win over Halifax, on Monday, March 23. In singles, Johnathan Harbour (PC) defeated Evan Younger 8-2, David Lawson (PC) defeated Brett Crowder 8-1, Alejandro Garcia (HC) def Jaxon Ayers-Rosas 8-1. David Clark (PC) defeated Eliel Reyes 8-2, Aiden Slate (PC) defeated Warren Long 8-0, and Draysin Maselli (PC) defeated Zane Newton 8-0. In doubles, Harbour/Ayers (PC) defeated Younger/Crowder 8-2, Lawson/Clark (PC) defeated Garcia/Reyes 8-0, and Slate/Maselli (PC) defeated Newton/Anderson 8-0.

PCHS Varsity Baseball Gets Win

The PCHS Varsity Baseball Team traveled to Mt. Airy High School, on Thursday, March 19, getting a 15-6 win. A double by Zack Holt put the Cougars on the board in the top of the 1st. Jaiden Wilson drove in four runs on two hits, including a game tying home run to center field in the 5th, scoring three runs. Wilson then singled in the sixth inning, scoring one. The Cougars scored 5 runs on 2 hits in the top of the 6th, taking an 11-6 lead. Erik Martinez had a 2 RBI base hit. Calvin Lancaster started on the bump and gave up six hits and five runs, 3 earned, over three innings, striking out 2 and walking 1. Mark Register pitched 1 inning of shutout ball relief allowing 1 hit, striking out 2 and walking 1. Greely Terry earned the win in relief giving up 1 hit and 1 run, 0 unearned, over 3 innings, striking out 2 and walking 3.

JV Softball Gets Win Over Bassett

The JV Lady Cougar Softball Team hosted Bassett, on Friday, March 27, shutting out the Lady Bengals 18-0. The Cougars scored 11 in the 1st, including an Addy Foley homer to right field, scoring 3 runs. Carrie Gregory singled with 1 RBI. Cassidy Brim had a single and an RBI. Savannah Fain doubled, knocking in 2. In the 2nd, Fain singled, and Gregory and Deliah Jordan doubled. Fain started in the circle for the Cougars, striking out four, walking 0, allowing 1 hit and 0 runs over 2 innings. Brim pitched 1 inning in relief, striking out 2, walking 0, and giving up 0 hits. Gregory finished the day 2-2 with 4 RBIs. Fain was 3-3 at the plate.
