Lock Boyce, who serves as supervisor of the Mayo River District, celebrates the end of the final regular meeting of the Patrick County Board of Supervisors in 2017.

The caboose, which is the centerpiece of the Mayo River Rail Trail, was sandblasted over the summer.

Pioneer Community Hospital of Patrick before it closed in September.

A tree dedication ceremony was held at Patrick Springs Primary School in memory and in honor of Jamey Ross, a second grader, who died in September due to leukemia.

The tree, donated by Ayers-Kreh Tree Farm, was planted near the entrance to the school. Students from Ross’ homeroom class made special Christmas ornaments to decorate the tree. The school mascot, a panda, was placed at the top of the tree.

Pam Hylton, school counselor, spoke at the ceremony and the principal, Marcie Murphy, presented Jamey’s mother, Kelly Ross, with a memorial ornament on behalf of the students.  (Photo by Amanda Collins)
