Forty families of inmates were each given a Christmas box of food containing fresh produce, canned goods, dried pasta, and cookies.
As in previous years, all the inmates were given an opportunity to choose one family to receive the gift box. The family had to live within Patrick and Henry counties. Forty inmates responded.
The goal behind the program is to strengthen ties between inmates and their family. The person delivering the box notes that it is from the Adventist Church. on behalf of their inmate friend or relative.
The Church also gives a Christmas package to every inmate, around 105. Packages contain personal hygiene items such as toothpaste, hand soap as well as candy, and a couple spiritual tracts to offer encouragement. The packages always have been much appreciated.
Thanks goes to the jail personnel for their support to the program.
