AIN’T THAT SOMETHING!

In 2019, Meadows of Dan Blood drives averaged 23 donations per drive. But, upon learning that the coronavirus-caused closings of colleges and high schools meant the loss of more than 200,000 expected donations nationwide, folks on the mountain heeded the Red Cross’s urgent appeal and turned out, in a big way, for our March 25th blood drive.

On that day Meadows of Dan received 53 gifts of blood – that’s 30 more than 2019’s average, an increase of 230% over last year, and an all-time record for “modern-era” mountaintop Blood Drives.  Ain’t that something?

Five first time donors turned out.  They were Savana Brown, Jeffery Dalton, Levi Jeppson, Nolan Jeppson, and Sarah Love.

In addition, six “Milestone Pins” which celebrate “gallons of donations” given by repeat donors were awarded as follows (number of gallons appear in parentheses): Angie Nance (1), Sharon Webb (2), Carlton Largen (7), Barbara Largen (11), Doug Phillips (11), and Lynda Hylton (14).  Ain’t that Something?

And … it does take helping hands to welcome and serve our donors, and so we give a special word of thanks to these our volunteers who hosted the Red Cross and our donors all day long: Betty Banks, Sonita Harris, Mary Locke, Martha Nyquist, Lucy Rudd and Becky Rudolph.

Finally … many thanks to Nancy’s Fudge Factory, which supplied a day-long endless supply of fudge to donors and Red Cross personnel.
