In an era of struggling small towns in the U.S. and pressures related to infrastructure growth, declining tax bases and increasing tax rates, I wanted to let the community of Stuart know that there is a different option available for the Town of Stuart to pursue related to the expansion of the fire department in Stuart.
The old Alexander’s building, which I and many of you surely have fond memories of, could be available to the town for this project for less than half the cost of the Food Lion building.
I am no developer or structural engineer, so I am aware that the Alexander’s building may not be as well suited for the job as the Food Lion building is, but having followed many Patrick County discussions about how to spend the limited budgets of the community, it does seem like saving hundreds of thousands of dollars on the purchase of one grocery store building over another should certainly be a part of the discourse about such an important development in the town.
Anyone who has any questions about the Alexander’s building is welcome to contact me via email at william.alexander@gmail.com. I’m glad to answer any questions that I am able to answer.
Respectfully,
William Alexander Jr.
