The Patrick County School Board at a special meeting Saturday approved an application that will be used in the superintendent search.

Acting Superintendent J. David Martin created the application criteria based on ideals expressed by the community through one-on-one interviews and surveys.

The successful candidate must demonstrate ability in several areas, including strong communication and effective team building; visibility and involvement in community activities; educational leader who develops a shared vision with all stakeholders; fostering community and intergovernmental partnerships; developing and implementing strategies to recruit, grow, and retain high quality teachers; communicating effectively within the school division and also externally throughout the school division, region and state; instructional leadership through goal setting and monitoring achievement; understanding budgeting and resource management to ensure continuation of quality teaching and learning processes and leading by example to inspire others and instill confidence.

The deadline for completed applications is October 11.

Martin said the goal is to have a new superintendent in place by the Thanksgiving holiday.
