The Ararat Community Watch was held at the Ararat Ruritan Building in Ararat on August 31.

Sheriff Dan Smith opened the meeting with updates, questions, and comments. He introduced the new host, Deputy Bob Martin for the Ararat Community Watch.

Smith then introduced guest speaker Investigator Danny Martin, who spoke about home security, with a checklist for everyone to follow to help keep their homes safe. The list included exterior, garage, sliding doors and windows, outdoor security when away from your home, outdoor valuables and personal property.

Martin and his wife Susan presented an example of being approached by an intruder with a weapon, and showed how, if you are going to use your weapon, to keep your distance, so not to be taken advantage of.
