Arthur Allen Ayers, 87, of Stuart, VA passed away on Thursday, November 24, 2022, at Sovah Hospital in Martinsville, VA. He was born on September 10, 1935, to the late Irene Hazelwood Ayers and Cary Goode Ayers in Patrick County, VA.

He was a longtime member of Stuart Baptist Church and was very active in sports at Hardin Reynolds Memorial School playing baseball and basketball. He was very active in the Patrick County Jaycees, holding all offices and a lifetime membership. He served in the United States Army from 1957 to 1959, and was stationed at Fort Carson, Colorado. He was called back to service in 1961 during the Berlin crisis and was discharged after 10 months. He worked for Virginia Farm Bureau for several years, at First National Bank for seven years, and was co-owner of Ayers Dalton Insurance for 18 years. While working at Ayers Dalton he won several trips to Munich, Germany, Hong Kong, Hawaii and Rio De Janerio.

Surviving are his wife, Brenda Ayers of the home, two daughters, Robin Corns (Gary) of Madison, NC, Tonya Brooks (Stefan) of Midlothian, VA; two brothers, Eret Lee Ayers of Chapin, SC, Walter Ayers (Lynn) of Richmond, VA; grandchildren, Madison, Hollyn Corns, Leah, Hannah Brooks; great-grandchildren, Nicholas and Jordan King

He enjoyed traveling and was fortunate enough to travel to all fifty states, plus Bermuda. He belonged to the Model A Ford Club of Christiansburg, VA, and traveled a lot driving his 1929 Ford. He restored a 1931 that won best in show at the National Model A meet.

After retiring he became active in American Legion Post 105 and the Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard where he participated in numerous funerals until his health started failing.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, November 28, 2022, at Patrick Memorial Gardens with Pastor Keith Vernon officiating and with Military Rites by Patrick County Veterans Memorial Honor Guard.
