Baseball team wins first round

Camden Nowlin and Tucker Swails celebrate the first-round win.

The Varsity Cougars defeated Martinsville 17-1, Monday, May 16, in the opening round of the Piedmont District Tournament.  

Stuart Callahan had the start on the mound going 2 innings allowing no hits, walking none, and striking out 4. 

Hunter Strole threw 2 innings, giving up 1 run on 2 hits. Strole walked 1 and struck out 6.  

Camden Nowlin closed the game, throwing 1 perfect inning by striking out 3. 

Callahan led the Cougars at the plate, going 3-3 with 4 RBIs. 

Nowlin was 2-2 with 1 RBI and scored 3 runs. Tucker Swails went 1-3 with 2 RBIs, scoring 3 runs. Jackson Horton drove in 2 runs.
